Licores e Doces do Convento
Origins
The origins of Monchique liqueurs are said to lie in the abandoned monastery above the village. Franciscan monks from India moved there at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The friars lived and prayed in the convent and farmed. They loved the plants and the nature that surrounded them. What they had learned in faraway India, they applied to the fruits and herbs that they now found in the Serra de Monchique. This is how the first sweets and liqueurs were created. In addition to the liqueurs, Cristina also sells sweets and small ceramic pottery items in her small store.
